About Dr. Angela McNeil
Dr. Angela McNeil is a counselor, educator, and advocate with over 25 years of experience supporting individuals, families, and communities in their personal and professional growth. Through her practice, Journey Services: Learn. Grow. Heal., she provides compassionate, trauma-informed care designed to help clients move toward healing, resilience, and meaningful change.
Dr. McNeil’s path into counseling is rooted in a lifelong commitment to walking alongside others during life’s most challenging moments. Her work has spanned higher education, mental health services, and community engagement—where she has consistently created spaces that foster reflection, empowerment, and transformation. Throughout her career, she has supported individuals navigating anxiety, depression, grief, life transitions, and the impact of trauma.
Her clinical approach is trauma-informed, culturally responsive, and grounded in the belief that healing happens when individuals feel seen, heard, and supported. She works with children, adolescents, and adults, helping them build effective coping strategies, strengthen emotional awareness, and develop tools for long-term wellness.
Dr. McNeil’s doctoral research, The Double Grief Phenomenon: African American Mothers Who Lost Their Sons to Gun Violence, reflects her deep commitment to understanding the intersection of trauma, loss, and systemic inequities. This work continues to inform her practice, particularly in supporting individuals and families impacted by complex grief and community trauma.
In addition to counseling, Dr. McNeil partners with schools, churches, and organizations to provide psychoeducational workshops, professional development, and consultation. Her training and facilitation work focuses on topics such as stress management, emotional wellness, cultural competency, and building supportive environments that promote growth and belonging.
Whether working one-on-one in the counseling space or engaging with organizations, Dr. McNeil is dedicated to helping others learn, grow, and heal—creating opportunities for lasting transformation in individuals and communities alike.
